A friend recently made Martha Stewart’s Plum Tarte for book club (delicious) and I found myself wondering if you could make it a bit healthier. The answer is yes!
You can always use store-bought un-cooked pie crust (just look for ingredients you can pronounce) and Whole Food’s even carries a gluten free option!
Or try this crust recipe:
- 3/4 cup(s) flour, whole-wheat pastry
- 1/2 cup(s) flour, all-purpose
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoon butter, unsalted, cold, cut into small pieces
- 2 tablespoon sour cream, reduced-fat
- 2 tablespoon oil, canola
- 2 tablespoon water
Take your crust and following Martha’a instructions, take fruit of choice and toss with 1 tbsp whole wheat flour and 1/4 cup turbinado sugar and fill the crust with lots of fruit of choice. (I used peaches). Use Martha’a egg white wash for the sides of the pie crust. Bake at 400 degrees for about 45 minutes and enjoy. It was really delicious!
And don’t forget: the rule with all desserts, eat in moderation….so continue to enjoy over the week or bring the leftovers to work!
