Cherry Blossom 10-miler


We did it! On Sunday, April 7th, the FitGals and I completed the Cherry Blossom 10-Mile  Run and…we ran the entire way! This was a personal journey for me since I had never run more than 3 miles.  I’m more interested in dance, yoga, zumba, pilates, and besides running!! I slowly worked to improve my endurance by training and working my way up to 6 miles before the race… so I was nervous and anxious for making it to 10-miles.

Before the big race, I got a good night’s sleep and woke up around 5:30am. I hydrated with some coconut water and fueled my body with whole wheat toast and some almond butter. Once we arrived at the National Mall, I was in shock over how many people there were… all 15,000 of them!!! I saw people of all ages, shapes and sizes ready to run! It was a chilly morning but everyone’s energy and excitement kept me warm. It was finally time to line up and we were off! There were so many people cheering us on that I didn’t even feel like I was running for as long as I did.  We ran passed the monuments, across the Memorial Bridge, right by the Kennedy Center and down to Haines Point.  My favorite part was running through a tunnel where everyone’s loud cheering created an echo that made me run even faster. As we got to mile 8, I realized that I had broken a personal record for myself. I had never run 8 miles before and didn’t know I could. The last two miles were the hardest but the most rewarding. As we saw the finish line ahead and heard the cheers of encouraging onlookers, we sprinted to the finish line. I have never felt so great and so accomplished. We set a goal and completed it!  I can’t believe I am saying this but I already can’t wait to sign up for the next race… Does this mean I am officially a runner?!
