FIT Finds – Healthiest DC Lunch Spots

I don’t know about you, but during most of my work days, I have about 10 minutes max to run outside, grab something quick to eat, and run back up to my desk. Which usually leads to some seriously poor  lunch decisions.

Sure, there’s the usual places to grab a salad or wrap like Sweetgreen or Chop’t, but going to the same place all the time can get bland and boring.

As FITgals, we are constantly on the hunt for new places around the city with delicious and HEALTHY lunch options that we can grab on the go!

One of our FITgal’s set out this week to find what healthy lunch spots DC had to offer.

Check out her findings!

 Juice Joint Cafe

1025 Vermont Ave. NW

Juice joint cafe

Located near the McPherson Square metro, this juice bar also offers fare for vegans, vegetarians, and carnivores alike.

Their menu offers a ton of variety.

In the mood for Mexican? Try a chicken and black bean burrito with brown rice. Cajun food? Try the cajun catfish wrap. Chinese? Get a stir-fry with chicken, tofu, or salmon over brown rice.

Healthy and different from the everyday, same old turkey wrap!

 Protein Bar

Ballston (800 N. Glebe)

Penn Quarter (7th and D)

19th and K(coming soon!)

Protein Bar Buffalo “Bar-rito” (All-natural chicken (tofu available), organic quinoa, blue cheese, and house-made vegan buffalo sauce)

Protein Bar Buffalo “Bar-rito” (All-natural chicken (tofu available), organic quinoa, blue cheese, and house-made vegan buffalo sauce)

With three locations in the DMV area, this spot boasts “delicious, high protein food + drink.”

They offer the normal healthy fare, covering breakfast, raw juices, salads, smoothies, etc.

What seems to stand out on the menu are their Signature Grilled Protein Bar-ritos. They use quinoa instead of rice and a whole wheat wrap instead of a flour tortilla. They’re also…you guessed it grilled!

Another unique thing about Protein Bar, is all of their salads are made with the “Super 6 Salad Mix.” Which contains romaine, spinach, broccoli, carrots, kale, purple cabbage to offer maximum nutrition.

All under 600 calories!

Cirque Cuisine

location varies, check their Twitter

This is one of DC’s many food truck offerings.

They specialize in healthy, organic, global cuisine and pick a different region each day to focus on.

Their daily menu always includes a vegetarian and gluten-free option, as well as a minimum of two proteins. My inside sources tell me that the prices are a little high for lunch ($12 for a full meal), so it’s a bit of a splurge.

My source did sample their Korean tofu lettuce wraps and said it was life changing! The price is beyond worth it!

I’m hungry just thinking about all these delicious options!

What’s your favorite healthy place to lunch in DC?
